Abstract

Competitive sports participation among adolescent athletes presents a dynamic landscape for exploring the intricate interplay between psychological factors, stress experiences, coping mechanisms, and performance outcomes. This comprehensive analysis seeks to elucidate the multifaceted nature of the psychological impact of competitive sports on adolescent athletes, with a focus on stressors, coping strategies, and performance indicators. The current study aimed to identify the various stressors experienced by adolescent athletes participating in competitive sports, including performance pressure, academic demands, interpersonal conflicts, and other situational stressors. The study collected data from 600 athletes from schools, sports clubs, and community sports programs through an online questionnaire survey and interview method. The gathered data was analyzed using SPSS software. The results showed that perception of autonomy and competence, psychological stress, utilization of problem-focused coping, self-efficacy, quality of relationships, resilience, and performance outcomes impact competitive sports participation in adolescent athletes. Athletes with higher self-efficacy demonstrated greater confidence in their abilities, resulting in enhanced performance outcomes and overall satisfaction with their athletic achievements. These findings underscore the significance of prioritizing athletes’ mental well-being and providing support to develop effective coping strategies and confidence in one’s own abilities. The study’s novelty lies in its in-depth analysis of coping mechanisms among adolescent athletes, incorporating gender and cultural factors, and offering practical insights for youth sports development. Furthermore, the study investigates the intricate relationship between psychological factors and performance outcomes in competitive sports. It evaluates how various coping strategies influence performance levels and identifies resilience factors that facilitate optimal performance despite stress-induced challenges.
