16. Terugblik en vooruitblik op de behandeling

Samenvatting

Eetstoornissen hebben geen specifieke oorzaak. Ze zijn het gevolg van een combinatie van verschillende factoren zoals genetische kwetsbaarheden en biologische, psychologische en sociale factoren. In vergelijking met andere psychiatrische klachten is de prevalentie laag, maar er zijn intussen aanwijzingen dat deze mogelijk vier keer hoger is dan tot nu toe werd aangenomen. Er zijn talrijke behandelingen ontwikkeld. Sommigen zijn stoornisgericht, anderen niet. De effectiviteit van de verschillende psychologische behandelingen loopt echter niet veel uit elkaar. Om de effectiviteit van behandeling te vergroten moet er naar interfererende effecten van psychiatrische comorbiditeit meer onderzoek gedaan worden. Ook wordt ervoor gepleit om als behandelaars meer samenwerking met elkaar te zoeken voor een breder en passender behandelaanbod voor cliënten dat rekening houdt met hun voorkeuren en klinisch relevante aangrijpingspunten.
