Inleiding

Systemische lupus erythematosus (SLE) is het klassieke voorbeeld van een systemische auto-immuunziekte. Vrijwel ieder orgaan kan bij de ziekte betrokken zijn, praktisch alle patiënten hebben autoantistoffen tegen uit de celkern afkomstige antigenen en ieder onderdeel van het aangeboren en het verworven immuunsysteem is bij de ziekte betrokken.
