Stigma bestrijden binnen en vanuit de GGZ (1)

Samenvatting

Onlangs organiseerde het ministerie van VWS een conferentie onder de titel Destigmatisering: Anders denken over psychische aandoeningen. Het tekent de belangstelling voor en een besef van urgentie bij de belemmeringen die stigma opwerpt voor de participatie van mensen met psychische aandoeningen. Dit artikel schetst dit probleem in twee delen en gaat in op bewezen effectieve strategieën om stigmatisering aan te pakken. In het eerste deel schenken we aandacht aan de betekenis en gevolgen van stigma en wat daaraan collectief en individueel te doen valt. In het volgende nummer komt specifieker aan de orde wat de GGZ hierin kan betekenen.
