It has been bothering me for years: as a medical professional in the setting of the disabled employee the occupational physician is only being ‘tolerated’, and sometimes even marginalised. The public too often regards us as a nobody. How can this be possible while, at the same time, we know that many employees and employers are satisfied with their occupational physicians? I think those occupational physicians possess two essential qualities: he (read: she) can ‘help conditionally’ and is good at demedicalisation.
