Samenvatting

Soiling is het onwillekeurig verliezen van fecaal materiaal uit de anus in de kleding. Het betreft dus een lichte vorm van anale incontinentie, ook wel fecale incontinentie, encopresis of incontinentia alvi genoemd. In relatie tot ouderen wordt met de term ‘soiling’ in de praktijk meestal verlies van vocht uit de anus bedoeld. In relatie tot kinderen wordt meestal verlies van alle soorten van feces bedoeld. Fecale incontinentie wordt volgens Browning en Parks ingedeeld in vier groepen: I normale continentie, II incontinentie voor flatus, III incontinentie voor dunne feces, IV complete incontinentie voor feces.
