With an onslaught of books available for parents and professionals targeting the challenges of dealing with individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) it can be difficult to differentiate what is truly informative and useful from that which is well-packaged and marketed but lacks substantive content. So many volumes with evocative covers and titles are redundant in content and superficial in their treatment of particular topics. As a clinician long interested in the experiences of girls with ASDs and their families and how these experiences might differ from that of boys, I wondered whether this volume would make a meaningful contribution.
