7. Seksuele diversiteit

Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk staat een bespreking van drie belangrijke diversiteitsdimensies centraal, namelijk gender, seksuele voorkeur en cultuur. Eerst is er aandacht voor genderdiversiteit en wordt erop gewezen dat er op het seksuele domein tussen mannen en vrouwen verschillen zijn, maar dat er ook veel overlap is. Er is daarbij aandacht voor de invloed van de dubbele seksuele moraal en van een aantal methodologische beperkingen op het bestuderen van die verschillen. Vervolgens worden uit het onderzoek naar non-heterosexuality enkele thema’s kort aangestipt. Bij de bespreking van culturele diversiteit is er aandacht voor stereotypering, voor de health gap rond seksuele en reproductieve rechten tussen ontwikkelde en ontwikkelende landen en voor de groter wordende etnisch-culturele diversiteit en de invloed daarvan op (de betekenis) van seksueel gedrag. Daarna volgt een pleidooi om, naar analogie met doing gender, ook diversiteit actief te herdefiniëren als doing diversity.
