@school project: prevalentie en functies van problematisch schoolverzuim in het Rotterdamse basisonderwijs

samenvatting

De prevalentie van problematisch schoolverzuim en de verschillende vormen (spijbelen, angstgerelateerde schoolweigering en schoolonthouding) werden onderzocht bij een steekproef van 345 Rotterdamse basisschoolkinderen. Daarnaast werden vier functies die problematisch schoolverzuim kan hebben voor kinderen onderzocht met behulp van kind-, ouder- en leerkrachtgegevens. Een vijfde functie die problematisch schoolverzuim kan hebben voor ouders werd onderzocht met behulp van leerkracht- en oudergegevens. De prevalentie van problematisch schoolverzuim in de onderzochte maand bedroeg 10.7%. Schoolonthouding door ouders kwam het meest voor, gevolgd door angstgerelateerde schoolweigering, een gecombineerde vorm (schoolweigering, spijbelen en schoolonthouding kwamen in combinaties van twee vormen voor) en spijbelen. Kinderen die geclassificeerd werden als problematisch schoolverzuimers rapporteerden zelf hogere scores op vier functies van schoolverzuim dan kinderen zonder problematisch schoolverzuim. Ouders van kinderen met angstgerelateerde schoolweigeringsproblematiek rapporteerden hogere niveaus van vermijden van schoolgerelateerde stimuli die angst en depressieve gevoelens oproepen dan ouders van kinderen die in aanmerking kwamen voor schoolonthoudingsproblematiek.
