Samenvatting

Het begrip schedeltrauma houdt in het traumatisch letsel van de hersenschedel, het schedeldak en de schedelbasis, en de inhoud daarvan, de hersenen. Vaak is er een combinatie van letsels (schedel-hersenletsel), maar het belang van het hersenletsel overheerst, omdat de ernst hiervan het meest bepalend is voor de prognose van de patiënt. Het letsel van het aangezicht blijft hier buiten beschouwing.
