Scabies is in ons land een vrij zeldzame aandoening geworden. De incidentie van scabies bij de huisarts varieert van 0,3 tot 0,4 per 1000 patiënten per jaar. Toch moeten we hierop bedacht zijn. Scabies hangt sterk samen met de sociaaleconomische en hygiënische omstandigheden: met name asielzoekers, verpleeghuisbewoners en immuungecompromiteerden zijn kwetsbaar voor scabies. Mogelijk bestaat er een periodiciteit van 15 tot 20 jaar in de virulentie van de schurftmijt die samenhangt met de opgebouwde immuniteit van een bepaalde populatie na een doorgemaakte infectie. …
