Routine Outcome Monitoring: ‘love it or leave it’?

Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) heeft de afgelopen jaren een vaste plek gekregen in psychotherapeutische behandelingen. Veel therapeuten zijn ROM gaan gebruiken, omdat ze daarmee een hoger tarief krijgen van de zorgverzekeraar als vrijgevestigde of omdat ze bij een ggz-instelling werken die gekort wordt door zorgverzekeraars als ze niet aan ROM doen. Regelmatig horen we collega-therapeuten verzuchten dat ze ROM als bureaucratie en papierwerk zien; iets dat ze moeten doen maar liever zouden nalaten. Dat is jammer, want het meten van de behandelvoortgang kan wel degelijk een positief effect op de behandeluitkomsten hebben, zo blijkt uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek (Carlier e.a., 2012; De Jong, Van Sluis, Nugter, Heiser & Spinhoven, 2012; Lambert, 2007; Shimokawa, Lambert & Smart, 2010). Ook patiënten blijken ROM vaak zeer te waarderen (Lutz, Boehnke, Kock & Bitterman, 2011). Wat maakt dat veel therapeuten ROM als een last ervaren? …
