Samenvatting

Rubella is een acute, over het algemeen goedaardige infectieziekte die wordt veroorzaakt door het rubellavirus. De aandoening komt meestal voor bij niet-immune kinderen en jonge volwassenen. Besmetting vindt plaats via de tractus respiratorius als druppeltjesinfectie. Het virus verspreidt zich via het lymfatische systeem en daaropvolgend de bloedsomloop naar veel inwendige organen (inclusief de placenta).
