Clinical pathways are multidisciplinary tools to organise care. They can be valuable in providing optimal care for patients with inborn errors of metabolism which are known for their low prevalence and multidisciplinary care which is mostly founded on expert opinion. The use of clinical care pathways provides a clear route to the best care and improves communication. Importantly the clinical care pathway gives the patient more insight into their disease and its treatment and therefore it promotes active participation in follow-up.
