Samenvatting

Het doel van de behandeling van een geblesseerde sporter is een veilige en succesvolle terugkeer naar de sport. In het Return-to-Play-(RTP-)beslissingsmodel van Creighton is de RTP-beslissing opgebouwd uit drie stappen: de evaluatie van de gezondheidstatus, bestaande uit medische factoren; de evaluatie van het participatierisico, bestaande uit sportgebonden factoren; en modificerende factoren die een rol spelen bij de RTP-beslissing. Bij de evaluatie van de gezondheidsstatus dient er niet alleen aandacht te zijn voor fysieke gereedheid, maar ook voor psychologische gereedheid. In het model zijn daarom ook psychosociale factoren opgenomen. Angst om opnieuw geblesseerd te raken is een van de psychosociale factoren die een belangrijke rol spelen bij RTP. Om tot een afgewogen RTP-beslissing te komen is inzicht in alle drie stappen van het model noodzakelijk. Gezien de complexiteit van de RTP-beslissing zou deze idealiter een gezamenlijke beslissing van verschillende betrokken partijen moeten zijn.
