Relatie tot zichzelf, de baby, anderen en het systeem: een narratieve analyse van de overgang naar het ouderschap voor jonge moeders in pleegzorg

Samenvatting

Onderzoek naar jonge moeders in pleegzorg richt zich vooral op de risico’s die gepaard gaan met zwangerschap bij deze jongeren en minder op de context van het ouderschap. In deze narratieve studie wordt onderzocht hoe de identiteit van jonge moeders, hun ouderschapservaringen en beslissingen zich ontwikkelen binnen verschillende relationele contexten. Gekeken wordt hoe hun relatie tot zichzelf, de baby, het gezin van herkomst, vrienden, met de vader van de baby en met jeugdzorg vorm geven aan de overgang naar het moederschap voor deze jonge moeders in pleegzorg in Illinois. De bevindingen zijn tot stand gekomen via een narratieve analyse van de gegevens van in totaal 40 diepte-interviews met 29 jonge moeders (N = 29 eerste interview; N = 11 s interview). De interpersoonlijke relaties van een jonge moeder en de betrokkenheid van jeugdzorg kunnen het tot bloei komen van een nieuwe moeder zowel helpen als belemmeren. Deze studie levert een belangrijke bijdrage aan het onderzoek naar aanstaande en jonge moeders in pleegzorg, met belangrijke implicaties voor traumazorg bij jongeren, en de studie biedt nieuwe inzichten in wat geschikte hulpbronnen en hulpverlening zijn voor deze jonge ouders en hun kinderen. Hierdoor wordt zowel de ouder-kindrelatie als de co-ouderrelatie ondersteund. Ook geeft de studie aanwijzingen voor toekomstig onderzoek naar deze populatie.
