Definition

Classroom accommodations are adjustments made in the classroom that allow students with special needs to participate in regular education. These accommodations remove the barriers that would otherwise impede a child’s ability to participate due to the nature of the disability. Accommodations and modifications are often used interchangeably. However, they have slightly different connotations. Modifications alter the nature of the classroom including standards and expectations. Accommodations remove barriers without altering what is expected and being measured.
