Recidiverende urineweginfecties bij oudere mannen en vrouwen

Samenvatting

De verschillende aspecten van recidiverende urineweginfecties bij oudere mannen en vrouwen worden besproken, te weten epidemiologie, pathogenese, symptomatologie, therapie en profylaxe. Waar relevant wordt een vergelijking gemaakt met recidiverende urineweginfecties bij de jongere patiënt.
De atypische presentatie van een urineweginfectie bij ouderen, de diagnostiek van een urineweginfectie, de problematiek van een asymptomatische bacteriurie en de verschillende mogelijkheden van profylaxe komen aan de orde. Ten aanzien van de keuze van de voor te schrijven antibiotica zijn actuele resistentiedata van de te behandelen bacteriepopulatie essentieel.
Helaas zijn voor de oudere patiënt veel minder goede studies beschikbaar over bovengenoemde onderwerpen dan voor jongere patiënten.
