Inleiding

Radiotherapie is, naast chirurgie en medische oncologie, één van de drie pijlers van de behandeling van kanker. Een derde van de kankerpatiënten krijgt radiotherapie als onderdeel van een eerste curatieve behandeling, en een even groot aantal krijgt palliatieve radiotherapie ter verlichting van de symptomen als genezing niet meer mogelijk is. Huisartsen krijgen dus veelvuldig te maken met patiënten die worden bestraald.
