Loss of a job, loss of a home, loss of a friend or family member- over the course of one’s lifetime, losses abound. How a person experiences and deals with losses great and small has a significant impact on his or her quality of life. Many of us find that following a loss, we move through stages of grief, supported perhaps by family, friends, and faith traditions. In time we adjust to the loss. This difficult process is compounded for those with an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). People with an ASC often have difficulty in understanding and communicating their emotions related to losses, and may react in unexpected or troubling ways. In Autism and Loss, Rachel Forrester-Jones and Sarah Broadhurst offer a new resource for professionals and caregivers who seek to provide persons with an ASC, effective support during times of grief or loss.
