8. Psychologische distress en vermoeidheid

Samenvatting

Psychologische distress en vermoeidheid zijn bekende fenomenen bij oncologische patiënten. Psychologische distress en vermoeidheid uiten zich in diverse vormen bij patiënten, zoals slecht slapen of piekeren, maar ook depressie, angst of somatische klachten komen voor. Het is belangrijk dat de huisarts deze klachten proactief navraagt en samen met de patiënt kan ontrafelen en verder bespreken of behandelen. De omgeving van de patiënt kan eveneens belangrijke stress ervaren, ook hier is een proactieve rol voor de huisarts weggelegd. Daarnaast kan de huisarts zelf distress ervaren, als een patiënt met wie hij een langdurende relatie heeft opgebouwd een oncologisch probleem ontwikkelt. Deze stress kan zowel patiënt- als persoongerelateerd zijn. Het is dan ook belangrijk dat de huisarts bij zichzelf distress (h)erkent en hiervoor op tijd hulp zoekt.
