Psycho-educatie bij hersenletsel

Samenvatting

Een hersenaandoening heeft een impact op heel wat levensdomeinen. Vaak zijn veel van de gevolgen van een hersenaandoening niet direct zichtbaar voor de buitenwereld, wat vaak leidt tot misverstanden en verkeerde verwachtingen. Daarom is het belangrijk om patiënt en mantelzorger voor te bereiden op de realiteit op lange termijn. Binnen de neuropsychotherapeutische behandeling speelt psycho-educatie dan ook een belangrijke rol. Goede informatie over en inzicht in de gevolgen van een hersenaandoening, plus de manier waarop hiermee omgegaan kan worden, zijn zowel voor de patiënt, de familie als voor andere naastbetrokkenen zeer belangrijk. Dit artikel poogt een bijdrage te leveren aan de waarde en inhoud van psycho-educatie voor deze doelgroep.
