Projectieve identificatie – wegwijzers en valkuilen

Abstract

Dit artikel beschrijft de waardevolle aspecten van het begrip projectieve identificatie. Het plaatst echter ook een aantal kritische kanttekeningen bij de wijze waarop het begrip soms wordt gebruikt. Alvorens te concluderen dat er sprake is van projectieve identificatie is het zinvol om een aantal verschillen in het oog te houden: het onderscheid tussen afweer en onvermogen; tussen projectieve identificatie en primaire identificatie; tussen intentie tot communicatie en communicatief potentieel van gedrag; tussen projectieve identificatie als afweer en projectieve identificatie als communicatie; en tussen projectieve identificatie van de patiënt en projectieve identificatie van de therapeut.
