Samenvatting

Kinderen met diabetes mellitus (DM) worden in Nederland door kinderartsen van bijna alle ziekenhuizen behandeld. Tot nu toe was er geen landelijk registratiesysteem voor patiënten met DM. Hierdoor is er onvoldoende inzicht in het vóórkomen en de presentatie van de verschillende typen DM bij kinderen in Nederland en onvoldoende inzicht in de verschillen in behandeling tussen de behandelcentra. Omdat de prognose van kinderen met DM bij suboptimale behandeling qua morbiditeit en mortaliteit nog zeer matig is, moet de behandeling van DM bij kinderen in Nederland verder verbeterd worden. De Pediatrische Diabetes Registratie.NL, een initiatief van de Landelijke Werkgroep Kinderdiabetes van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Kindergeneeskunde is recentelijk van start gegaan en heeft in een relatief korte tijd ‘diagnosedata’ van een zeer groot deel van de kinderen met DM in Nederland opgenomen in de database. In de komende tijd zal deze database overgaan in een longitudinale webbased database, waarbij mogelijk de Nederlandse Internisten Vereniging in een nog te ontwikkelen vorm zal aansluiten. Deelname aan de database zal naast het werken volgens de Nederlandse Diabetes Federatie Zorgstandaard een verplicht onderdeel worden voor de behandelaar van kinderen met DM. De database zal ons inzicht geven in het vóórkomen van de verschillende typen diabetes en behandeling daarvan. De database zal iedere behandelaar de eigen data in vergelijking met de rest van de Nederlandse behandelaars als spiegel gaan voorhouden, waardoor we verwachten dat de behandeling van DM bij kinderen in Nederland verder verbetert.
