PRISMA-COSMIN for OMIs 2024: response from ISOQOL’s child health special interest group

On behalf of International Society of Quality of Life’s (ISOQOL) Special Interest Group for Child Health (CH SIG), we would like to congratulate the authors for developing PRISMA-COSMIN guideline for reporting of systematic reviews of Outcome Measurement Instruments (OMIs). This paper outlines the steps in the development of PRISMA-COSMIN for OMIs guidelines which includes Delphi study, workgroup meeting, pilot testing and an end-of-project meeting. The 2024 edition of PRISMA-COSMIN for OMIs comprises two checklists (one for full reports and one for abstracts), accompanied by explanation and elaboration documents. These documents provide the rationale behind each item along with examples, and a data flow diagram. We believe that this guideline will enhance the reporting quality of reviews on OMIs, empowering individuals to better comprehend these OMIs and select the most suitable instrument for their requirements. The aim of this guideline is to support clear and thorough reporting of systematic reviews and to simplify the process of selecting the most suitable OMI for the specific needs of end-users like researchers, administrators, clinicians, and patients. The authors have outlined the need for such a guideline based on numerous systematic review reports highlighting the lack of reporting of vital information in systematic reviews, which makes it challenging to grasp the clear implications of these reviews and to select the optimal tool.
