Samenvatting

Er ligt een patiënt op de ic met een fulminante cholangiosepsis. Zijn voorgeschiedenis vermeldt colitis ulcerosa en primaire scleroserende cholangitis. Maar wat is primaire scleroserende cholangitis precies en hoe kan deze zeldzame leverziekte aanleiding geven tot bacteriële cholangitis, en in het eindstadium zelfs tot leverfalen? In dit artikel geven we antwoord op deze vragen door alle facetten van de ziekte kort te belichten.
