21. Plegers van seksueel geweld

Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk staat een beschrijving van het wat, waarom en hoe van het plegen van strafbaar seksueel gedrag of seksueel geweld centraal. Om duidelijk te maken wat daarmee wordt bedoeld, wordt eerst een definitie gegeven van wat strafbaar seksueel gedrag is en hoe vaak het voorkomt. Vervolgens worden verschillende theoretische verklaringen voor seksuele delinquentie beschreven, met aandacht voor algemene integratieve, monocausale en descriptieve theorieën. Omdat in het werken met plegers van seksueel geweld een accurate diagnostiek en inschatting van de kans op recidive (risicotaxatie) belangrijk zijn, wordt daarna uitgebreid op beide aspecten ingegaan. Daarna worden enkele belangrijke behandelingsprincipes besproken en de mogelijkheden en beperkingen van verschillende soorten psychotherapeutische en biomedische behandelingen. Het hoofdstuk sluit af met een korte samenvattende discussie waarin ook enkele kanttekeningen bij de huidige stand van zaken worden geformuleerd.
