Samenvatting

Mensen met een hoog ontwikkelingspotentieel denken en voelen anders dan anderen (Roeper, 1996; Silverman, 1998). Daarom hebben zij andere interne ervaringen en een andere sociale ervaring (Papadoulos, 2020). Zij doorlopen de fasen van de psychosociale ontwikkeling met de daarbij behorende crisis op een kwalitatief andere manier. In onze samenleving ligt een sterke nadruk op conformiteit. Dit kan tot verhoogde spanning leiden bij individuen met een hoog ontwikkelingspotentieel. Als deze spanning het vermogen tot adaptatie overstijgt worden afweermechanismen geactiveerd. Een van deze afweermechanismen is het projecteren van een sociaal wenselijk geacht masker (Persona). Omdat deze projectie afwijkt van de eigen innerlijke ervaring kan dit gevoelens van vervreemding oproepen. Hoewel het afweren van te heftige emoties of spanning adequaat en gezond is, kan dit gevoel van vervreemding een gezonde persoonlijkheidsontwikkeling bedreigen. In dit hoofdstuk worden soorten Persona, hoe zij tot stand kunnen komen en hoe met een Persona om te gaan beschreven.
