118. Pectus excavatum

Samenvatting

Pectus excavatum, ook wel trechterborst of schoenmakersborst genoemd, is een aangeboren afwijking van de thorax, waarbij het onderste deel van het borstbeen en de aldaar aanliggende ribben naar dorsaal verplaatst liggen. Van alle thoraxwandafwijkingen bij kinderen is pectus excavatum de meest voorkomende, ze komt ongeveer tienmaal vaker voor dan pectus carinatum, ook wel kippenborst genoemd, die gekenmerkt wordt door een naar voren stekend borstbeen.
