Hoe zetten we de patiënt echt centraal?

Samenvatting

Patiënten en patiëntvertegenwoordigers worden steeds meer betrokken bij de verbetering van de kwaliteit van de zorg.

Patiënten willen vaak een grotere rol spelen in hun eigen zorgproces en samen met hun zorgverleners beslissingen nemen.

Daarnaast wordt transparantie van de zorg een steeds belangrijker thema om de kwaliteit van zorg inzichtelijk te maken.

Patiënten kunnen op basis van die informatie keuzes maken. Om tot betrouwbare informatie te komen over de kwaliteit en uitkomsten van geleverde zorg, moet deze eerst gemeten worden. Eén van de manieren om de kwaliteit van zorg te meten is door patiënten zelf. Met behulp van patiënt-gerapporteerde uitkomsten geeft de patiënt zijn of haar mening en waardering over de eigen gezondheid. Vragenlijsten om deze uitkomsten te meten worden PROMs genoemd: Patient Reported Outcome Measures. Zij meten bijvoorbeeld fysiek, mentaal, sociaal functioneren of andere aspecten van kwaliteit van leven.
