14. Patellofemoraal pijnsyndroom (PFPS)

Samenvatting

Een 21-jarige vrouw heeft al twee jaar last van anterieure kniepijn tijdens het hardlopen. Rust helpt goed maar als zij weer begint met sporten, ontstaan steeds dezelfde klachten. Dit hoofdstuk begint met het verhaal van deze patiënt en hoe zij door de fysiotherapeut wordt onderzocht. Deze constateert dat hier sprake is van een klassiek patellofemoraal pijnsyndroom, de meest voorkomende aandoening bij jonge hardlopers. Het hoofdstuk beschrijft onder andere het fenomeen malalignment, evenals het verschijnsel dynamische knievalgus en de gevolgen hiervan voor patiënten met patellofemorale pijn. Ten slotte komen ook de talrijke therapeutische mogelijkheden ter sprake en de kans op succes van de behandeling.

MRC: Medical research council. Dit is een schaal voor het meten van spierkracht. De schaal bestaat uit zes nummers van 0 tot en met 5. Bij een waarde van 0 is totaal geen contractie van de spier mogelijk en de waarde 5 staat voor een normale spierkracht.
