Samenvatting

Alhoewel palliatieve sedatie een algemeen aanvaarde therapie is binnen palliatieve zorg, blijft het een veelbesproken en controversieel onderwerp dat bij velen ethische vragen oproept. Ondanks veel recente onderzoeksinspanningen blijven er nog heel wat lacunes en onduidelijkheden bestaan. Dit artikel beoogt een overzicht te geven van de meest recente evoluties en stelt dat een duidelijke en algemeen aanvaardde definitie een noodzakelijke voorwaarde is om de vele ethische en methodologische discussies helderder te laten verlopen.
