Samenvatting

De oorheelkunde heeft de laatste jaren enkele evoluties gekend. Zo zijn er enkele gewijzigde inzichten in verband met het plaatsen van trommelvliesbuisjes, een van de frequentste ingrepen in de otologie. In de middenoorchirurgie zijn er weer enkele prothetische materialen bijgekomen (titanium, hydroxyapatiet, acellulaire dermale graft) en heeft mri zijn intrede gedaan als mogelijk alternatief voor de second-lookoperatie bij cholesteatoma. De belangrijkste evoluties zijn evenwel te vinden in de functionele implantaten. baha's (bone-anchored hearing aids) zijn reeds langer gekend, maar het indicatiegebied is zich sterk aan het uitbreiden. Implanteerbare hoortoestellen staan nog in de kinderschoenen. En bovenal is cochleaire implantatie een routine-ingreep aan het worden die een oplossing biedt voor het merendeel van de perceptieve doofheden. Vooral bij doofgeboren kinderen zijn de resultaten spectaculair, al groeit het inzicht dat zeer vroegtijdige implantatie (< 2 jaar) cruciaal is daarvoor.
