Abstract

In de consensusrapporten (CBO, NHG en Gezondheidsraad) wordt aanbevolen niet te starten met cholesterolverlagers bij mannen ouder dan 70 jaar en bij vrouwen ouder dan 75 jaar. Tot dit advies is men gekomen door de gemiddelde levensverwachting af te zetten tegen de gemiddelde periode die nodig is voor een klinisch relevante reductie van arteriosclerose. Dit advies is wellicht anno 2009 achterhaald door onderzoeken die klinische benefits op veel kortere termijn laten zien.
