35. Oncologie bij jongvolwassenen (AYA’s)

Samenvatting

In Nederland krijgen jaarlijks ongeveer 2.700 jongvolwassenen tussen de 18 en 35 jaar de diagnose kanker. Zij worden, analoog aan de internationale literatuur, AYA’s genoemd, wat staat voor Adolescents and Young Adults. Zij vormen een aparte patiëntengroep vanwege unieke aspecten op het gebied van tumorepidemiologie, genetica en hun psychosociale en lichamelijke ontwikkelingsfase. Kanker en de behandeling ervan gaan gepaard met leeftijdsspecifieke behoeften bijvoorbeeld op het gebied van studie, werk, fertiliteit, identiteit, sociale relaties, intimiteit en seksualiteit. Leeftijdsspecifieke zorg dient geïntegreerd met medisch-technische zorg beschikbaar te zijn voor alle AYA’s. Het proces van de organisatie van zorg voor deze doelgroep alsmede de echelonnering van zorg worden in dit hoofdstuk beschreven.
