Samenvatting

In Nederland zijn ziekenhuizen sinds de jaren negentig in toenemende mate verplicht informatie te verstrekken over de kwaliteit van zorg.2) Hiervoor wordt gebruikgemaakt van indicatoren die informatie geven over de organisatorische randvoorwaarden waarin de zorg wordt verleend (structuur), de handelingen die binnen een zorgproces worden uitgevoerd (proces) en de uitkomsten van de zorgprocessen op patiëntniveau (uitkomst). Een indicator heeft een signaalfunctie en wordt gebruikt om de zorg te evalueren.3)
