Samenvatting

Met neuropsychologisch onderzoek kunnen stoornissen in cognitie, emotie en gedrag na traumatisch hoofd-/hersenletsel (THL) vastgesteld worden. Patiënten met licht THL laten een ander neuropsychologisch profiel zien dan patiënten met middelzwaar/ernstig THL. Na licht THL kunnen initieel cognitieve stoornissen aanwezig zijn, maar deze herstellen over het algemeen. Een kleine groep houdt cognitieve klachten die veelal gerelateerd zijn aan psychische en persoonlijke factoren als depressie, angst en een passieve copingstijl. Psychotherapeutische interventies gericht op verbetering van deze factoren lijken de meest geëigende behandelopties. Na middelzwaar en ernstig THL zijn neuropsychologische stoornissen vaak ernstiger en blijvend. Meest frequent aangedaan zijn de snelheid van informatieverwerking, aandacht, geheugen en executief functioneren. Ook kunnen stoornissen in sociale cognitie aanwezig zijn met problemen in interpersoonlijk sociaal gedrag. Neuropsychologische behandelingen met onder meer vaardigheids- of strategietraining, kunnen voor sommige patiënten tot verbetering in het dagelijks functioneren leiden. De beschikbare neuropsychologische revalidatiebehandelingen en de wetenschappelijke evidentie omtrent de effectiviteit hiervan zullen worden besproken.
