Een van de complicaties van een spiercontusie is de myositis ossificans: botvorming in een gekneusde spier. Het hoofdstuk bespreekt een kenmerkende casus, de oorzaken, diagnostiek en behandeling van deze hardnekkige blessure.

Ectopisch = op een abnormale plaats. Topos = plaats.

Profilaxe bestaat uit het voorschrijven van NSAID’s.

Mesenchym = embryonaal bindweefsel dat nog niet is uitgedifferentieerd. Hieruit kunnen het latere bindweefsel, bloed- en lymfevaten ontstaan.
