Inleiding

Het onderzoek wordt verricht volgens de principes van de advanced trauma life support (ATLS). Dit systeem werkt volgens het ABCDE-principe. Men gaat pas door naar de volgende stap als de vorige onder controle is. De adagia ‘treat first, what kills first’ en ‘do no further harm’ zijn leidend in dit principe.
