Inleiding

Het onderzoek van de motorische zenuwgeleiding heeft iets vreemds: het meet aan de spier om iets over de zenuw te leren. Dat heeft voordelen: de amplitude van de compound muscle action potential, meestal CMAP genoemd, is afhankelijk van plaats en spier 3 tot 15 mV. Dat is tot 1000 keer hoger dan de 3 tot 35 µV van een sensibele of gemengde zenuwpotentiaal. Zulke hoge CMAP-amplituden maken middelen overbodig, en het onderscheid met ruis of stimulusartefacten is meestal ook geen probleem. Een tweede voordeel van dergelijke hoge amplituden is dat CMAP’s ook nog goed herkenbaar zijn als men een zenuw ver van de spier af stimuleert, zoals gebeurt bij stimulatie op het punt van Erb en afleiding van een handspier.
