Casus

Vrouw van 34 jaar, twee kleine kinderen en een drukke baan komt voor een halfjaarlijkse controle. U constateert gegeneraliseerde gingivitis en interdentaal veel plaque. Patiënt heeft de vorige keer een traditionele mondhygiëne-instructie gehad. Daarbij is geadviseerd tweemaal daags te poetsen en tandenstokers te gebruiken. Hoe motiveert u deze patiënt?

Probeert u de patiënt te overtuigen van het feit dat het nu echt de verkeerde kant op gaat en zij dagelijks de tandenstoker moet gaan gebruiken en goed moet poetsen? Geeft u haar opnieuw een instructie over het juiste gebruik van de tandenstoker en hoopt u dat zij dan thuis wel aan de slag gaat? Of pakt u het anders aan en dreigt u voorzichtig dat ze op deze manier op den duur kiezen gaat verliezen? Of bespreekt u met behulp van een folder hoe (slecht) de situatie in haar mond ervoor staat? Waar kiest u voor?
