Moderne liefde: de driehoeksverhouding tussen jou en mij en de smartphone

Samenvatting

Elke romantische relatie wordt mede bepaald door communicatie, openheid en grenzen. Momenteel speelt de huidige informatie- en communicatietechnologie (ICT) daar ook een rol in, zeker in de vorm van de smartphone, die diep is doorgedrongen in onze persoonlijke levens en daarmee ook in het wel en wee van onze liefdesrelaties; en in het ontstaan, standhouden en eventueel beëindigen van die liefdesrelaties. De modellen die tot nu toe zijn gebruikt om deze nieuwe dynamiek te beschrijven, zijn gebaseerd op relatietheorieën uit het verleden. Maar het is daarnaast zinvol om therapeuten en onderzoekers die zich bezighouden met de dynamiek van relatievorming, inzicht te verschaffen in de veranderingen die zich hierbij het afgelopen decennium hebben voorgedaan onder invloed van ICT. Dit onderzoek naar de invloed van ICT op relatiedynamiek is uitgevoerd volgens de methode van de gefundeerde theorie, en is gebaseerd op de verhalen en beschrijvingen van zestien deelnemers. De studie toont aan dat de invloed van technologie op relaties zich op vier gebieden doet gelden: bereikbaarheid, intimiteit, grenzen en aanwezigheid.
