7. Mislukken van mandibulaire geleidingsanesthesie door aanwezigheid van accessoire kanalen

Inleiding

Het is een misverstand dat er in de mandibula slechts twee mandibulaire kanalen lopen die de gebitselementen van zenuwvezels voorzien. Ter hoogte van de middellijn overlappen de taken en dat heeft gevolgen voor het geven van een infiltratieanesthesie in de anterieure mandibula. Het is tevens een misverstand dat de nervus alveolaris inferior stopt bij het foramen mentale en daar de mandibula verlaat om over te gaan in de nervus mentalis. Hierbij wordt vaak vergeten hoe de gebitselementen in de anterieure mandibula aan zenuwtakjes komen.
