Mindfulness Based Emotion Regulation Training bij patiënten met borderlinepersoonlijkheidsstoornis

Resultaten van een pilotstudie in een klinische behandeling

Samenvatting

Mindfulness wordt gezien als een belangrijke vaardigheid voor patiënten met een borderlinepersoonlijkheidsstoornis (BPS). De Mindfulness Based Emotion Regulation Training (MB-ERT) richt zich specifiek op het ontwikkelen van mindfulness en zelfcompassie bij deze doelgroep, die wordt gekenmerkt door problemen in de emotieregulatie. In een verkennend onderzoek is gekeken naar de toepasbaarheid en klinische effecten van MB-ERT als modulair aanbod. Tien patiënten met BPS in klinisch-psychotherapeutische behandeling in het Centrum Persoonlijkheidsstoornissen Jelgersma te Oegstgeest volgden de MB-ERT van februari tot juni 2013. Gemeten werden mindfulnessvaardigheden, piekeren en borderlinesymptomen. Na afloop van de training vulden deelnemers bovendien een evaluatieformulier in. Ondanks de beperkingen van dit onderzoek zijn er aanwijzingen voor de veilige toepasbaarheid van MB-ERT bij patiënten met BPS binnen een klinische setting. Verbeteringen in mindfulnessvaardigheden, piekeren en borderlinesymptomen zijn significant.
