10. Mindfulness als interventie

Samenvatting

De fysiotherapeut kan mindfulness ook voor zichzelf inzetten. Zijn welbevinden en de kwaliteit van zijn fysiotherapeutische zorg neemt daardoor toe. Bij het werken met patiënten zal de fysiotherapeut als persoon mindfulness authentiek en belichaamd moeten inzetten, en met een welwillende vriendelijke attitude. Eigen ervaring met mindfulness, naast levenservaring, helpen de fysiotherapeut in dit proces. Het begeleiden van de patiënt of patiëntengroepen kent een aantal vaardigheden, waaronder goed gastheerschap, informatie en instructie geven en de oefenervaring begeleiden. Dat laatste betekent dat de fysiotherapeut weet hoe hij de patiënt bij moeilijke emoties kan begeleiden. Ook taal- en stemgebruik verdienen aandacht. Het hoofdstuk sluit af met een aantal aanwijzingen rond indicaties en contra-indicaties. Screening is daarbij belangrijk. Vooral bij posttraumatische stressstoornis, psychotische aandoeningen, angst, depressie, suïcide, crisis en middelenmisbruik kan de fysiotherapeut beter doorverwijzen naar een in mindfulness getrainde psycholoog.
