Niet-invasieve hersenstimulatie bij verslaving; het effect op craving en emotieregulatie

Samenvatting

Alcoholverslaving is een stoornis die gekenmerkt wordt door regelmatige terugval in overmatig alcoholgebruik na een aanvankelijk succesvolle stoppoging. Niet-invasieve hersenstimulatie is een nieuwe veelbelovende techniek, die mogelijk een gunstig effect heeft op de manier waarop de verslaafde omgaat met negatieve emoties en de daaraan gerelateerde zucht naar drank. Dit artikel bespreekt de recente wetenschappelijke literatuur, laat nieuwe voorlopige resultaten zien van een studie, waarin repetitieve transcraniële magnetische stimulatie (rTMS) bij alcoholverslaafden een positief effect heeft op emotieregulatie en craving, en beschrijft de mogelijke mechanismen die deze effecten veroorzaken.
