22 Het hart als bron van embolie

Samenvatting

Een embolie is een massa die in een bloedvat met het bloed wordt meegevoerd tot hij in een arterietak vastloopt en deze afsluit. Een embolie bestaat vaak uit een trombus, maar kan ook bestaan uit onder andere tumorweefsel, infectieus weefsel, atheromateuze plaque of luchtbellen. Achter de embolie ontstaat acute ischemie of bij langere afsluiting infarcering.
