Mijn broeders hoeder? Het subsysteem van broers en zussen in de context van fysieke en seksuele kindermishandeling

Samenvatting

Het subsysteem van broers en zussen is zeer belangrijk, het kan een beschermende factor voor kinderen zijn. Toch is er nog maar verrassend weinig onderzoek naar gedaan en ontbreekt een theoretisch of conceptueel kader. In deze studie wordt het subsysteem van broers en zussen in de context van kindermishandeling verkend. We hebben een uitgebreide thematische analyse gedaan van de verhalen van 30 kinderen die waren doorverwezen voor een forensisch interview vanwege een vermoeden van fysiek of seksueel misbruik door een ouder. De kinderen waren tussen de vier en veertien jaar oud en hadden allemaal tenminste één broer of zus naar wie zij verwezen tijdens hun interview, in de specifieke context van kindermishandeling. Hun verhalen gaven duidelijkheid over twee dynamische vormen die kenmerkend zijn voor het subsysteem van broers en zussen in de context van kindermishandeling: compensatie en overloopeffect van het trauma in het subsysteem van broers en zussen. Hieruit blijkt het belang van dit subsysteem in het leven van de kinderen en de verhalen geven meer inzicht in de rol van de broers en zussen bij het overleven van kindermishandeling. De bevindingen van deze studie benadrukken de noodzaak van verdere studies op dit gebied, omdat deze kunnen bijdragen aan verdere preventie en interventie.
