Samenvatting

Diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 oftewel suikerziekte komt zeer frequent voor in de verouderende populatie. Wereldwijd worden ongeveer 350 miljoen mensen getroffen door diabetes en dit aantal stijgt alleen maar. Dit heeft grote impact op het functioneren en de levenskwaliteit van de oudere. De besproken casus betreft een patiënte met diabetes mellitus type 2 met cardiale comorbiditeit. Op zowel uithouding, kracht als functioneel vlak scoort de vrouw laag en een reconditioneringsprogramma is essentieel. Om een programma op te stellen, moeten eerst ijkpunten worden bepaald. Voor uithouding zal dit gebeuren aan de hand van een maximale inspanningstest met bepaling van de VO2max en de ventilatoire drempel. Voor kracht zal gebruik worden gemaakt van de indirecte 1 RM-meting op fitnesstoestellen. Tevens zal een aantal functionele testen als de 6-minutenwandeltest, de handknijpkracht (maximale kracht en krachtuithouding) en sit-to-stand (functionele kracht) worden uitgevoerd. Bij behandeling wordt ingegaan op het uitwerken van een oefenprogramma.
