Samenvatting

Diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 of suikerziekte komt zeer vaak voor in de verouderende populatie. Wereldwijd worden ongeveer 350 miljoen mensen getroffen door diabetes en dit aantal stijgt alleen maar. Dit heeft een grote impact op het functioneren en de levenskwaliteit van ouderen. De besproken casus betreft een 70-jarige patiënt met diabetes type 2. Op zowel uithouding, kracht als functioneel vlak scoort de persoon laag en een reconditioneringsprogramma is essentieel. Om een programma op te stellen, moeten eerst de ijkpunten worden bepaald. Voor uithouding zal dit gebeuren aan de hand van een maximale inspanningstest met bepaling van de VO2max en de ventilatoire drempel. Voor kracht zal gebruik worden gemaakt van de indirecte 1RM-meting op fitnesstoestellen. Tevens zal een aantal functionele testen als de 6 minutenwandeltest, de handknijpkracht (maximale kracht en krachtuithouding) en sit-to-stand (functionele kracht) worden uitgevoerd. In het luik behandeling wordt ingegaan op het uitwerken van een oefenprogramma.
